On the exciting journey to Danang's Cham Sculpture Museum last Friday, AUV Southeast Asian history students, led by Professor James Barnhart, had a truly unforgettable experience.
On their trip to the museum, AUV students learned how to distinguish some of the major Hindu gods, such as Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu, and also the symbolic significance of many animals. In addition, students learned how to spot the representation of Hindu myths, such as the destruction and re-creation of the universe, in Cham artworks.
These lessons provided a vivid illustration of topics the students have been studying in their classes at AUV, “Introduction to Southeast Asia” (IDS 202) and “Southeast Asian Values” (IDS 350). Through this visit, the students gained a more comprehensive understanding of the diversity and richness of Southeast Asian culture, while cultivating a love for history.
