History

Alt

Over two decades ago, Dr. Binh Tran returned to her home country to help provide educational opportunities to young people. Out of that desire came the APU International School - a leading K-12 institution with campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

Building on the success of APU, a long process began with the goal of creating the first American-styled university in Vietnam.

The American University in Vietnam (AUV) received an investment license in 2009 and the groundbreaking ceremony for campus was in September 2010. AUV then partnered with the University of Missouri Kansas City, California State University, State University of New York, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), Wentworth Institute of Technology, and other elite American colleges and universities to continue growing.

Along with an International Advisory Board of US educators, AUV established a focus in areas of art, science, and medicine.

With support from the leadership of MOET, DaNang city, and others, AUV received approval from the government in 2015 for courses and degrees to begin in fall of 2016. The American University in Vietnam now offers a variety of general education courses, with degrees in business, marketing, management, hospitality, communication and computer science. In the future, AUV plans to offer degrees in pre-medicine, health sciences, engineering and other disciplines.

President's Message

Alt
W

elcome to the American University in Vietnam.

As an educator with over thirty years experience, including service as a university president and vice president at prestigious research universities, I know the importance students and families place on higher education.

AUV is special. Students will enjoy small classes and personalized instruction from faculty with the highest credentials from some of the best universities in the United States.

The curriculum is designed to help you on your career path – whether in business, hospitality, science, technology or communication. We also want each student to be able to communicate effectively, think critically and be a globally connected citizen.

Students will leave AUV with a strong foundation for future study or career, whether they complete their bachelor degree here in Vietnam or at one of many outstanding university partners in the US. These partners include campuses of California State University, State University of New York, Florida Institute of Technology, University of Missouri Kansas City and countless others.

We encourage you to look further into our website and learn more about our student-centered, American quality education close to home.

Sincerely,

Roy J Nirschel, PhD
President
